What is the Bandwidth Calculator & How does it work?
The Bandwidth Calculator estimates how long it takes to transfer a file given your connection speed. It handles unit conversions automatically — whether your speed is in Mbps, MB/s, or GB/h, and your file size in MB or GB.
The core formula divides the file size (in MB) by the effective throughput (in MB/s). Note that network speeds in Mbps must be divided by 8 to convert to MB/s, since 1 byte = 8 bits.
Time (s) = File Size (MB) ÷ Speed (MB/s)
Mbps → MB/s: divide by 8 |
GB/h → MB/s: × 1024 ÷ 3600 |
GB → MB: × 1024
