The Training Stress Score (TSS) is a metric used in endurance sports, particularly cycling, to quantify the stress placed on an athlete’s body during a workout. TSS helps athletes balance their training load, ensuring they are neither overtraining nor underutilizing their potential.
The formula for calculating TSS is based on the intensity factor (IF) and the duration of the session. The intensity factor is a ratio comparing the normalized power to the threshold power. Normalized power provides a more accurate representation of the overall intensity of a workout by accounting for variations in power output.
NP = Normalized Power
IF = Intensity Factor
Duration = Workout Duration in hours
