What is the Table Tennis Rating Calculator & How does it work?
The Table Tennis Rating Calculator uses an adapted version of the Elo rating system to estimate a player’s skill level based on their match results. This system is widely used in chess but has been modified for the dynamic nature of table tennis matches.
In this adaptation, each player starts with a default rating, and after each match, their ratings are adjusted based on the outcome. A win against a higher-rated opponent increases your rating more than a win against a lower-rated opponent, reflecting the difficulty of the match.
R’ = R + K \cdot (S – E)
R = current rating
R’ = new rating
K = adjustment factor (e.g., 32)
S = actual score (1 for win, 0 for loss)
E = expected score based on the difference in ratings
