The Pediatric Epworth Sleepiness Scale (PESS) is a tool used to assess the level of daytime sleepiness in children and adolescents. It consists of eight questions, each rated on a scale from 0 to 3, where 0 indicates no chance of dozing off and 3 indicates high likelihood of dozing off.
The total score ranges from 0 to 24. A higher score indicates greater daytime sleepiness. Scores of 9 or less are considered normal, scores between 10 and 15 suggest mild sleepiness, and scores of 16 or more indicate moderate to severe sleepiness.
