A box plot, also known as a boxβandβwhisker diagram, visualises the distribution of a data set through its quartiles, highlighting the median, spread, and potential outliers.
The central box spans the first (Qβ) and third (Qβ) quartiles, while the line inside the box marks the median (Qβ). Whiskers extend to the most extreme data points that are not considered outliers, based on the chosen whisker method.
Outliers are observations that fall beyond the whisker limits (commonly 1.5ΓIQR below Qβ or above Qβ). Identifying them helps detect anomalies or data entry errors.
