What is the Pressing Intensity Calculator & How does it work?

Pressing intensity, also known as passes allowed per defensive action (PPDA), is a metric used to evaluate the effectiveness of a team’s pressing tactics. It measures the number of passes a team allows before regaining possession after initiating a press.

A lower PPDA indicates that a team is more effective at winning back possession quickly, which can lead to better defensive organization and fewer chances for the opposing team. Conversely, a higher PPDA suggests that the team may be struggling to regain control of the game after pressing.

PPDA = \frac{Total\ passes\ allowed}{Defensive\ actions}
PPDA = Pressing Intensity
Total passes allowed = Number of passes the team allows before regaining possession
Defensive actions = Number of defensive actions initiated by the team
